Shipping with a review that names the reach

An extension ships when the reach is read. The reach is the list of hosts, and the list is why a review is a decision about names.

What you will see

refuse names new host. One name is fixable.

About 1 min of reading

Try It

Print a reach and compare

1

Print the reach

printf 'example.com\nshop.example.com\n' > /tmp/r.txt; wc -l < /tmp/r.txt

Before you run it, say out loud what it will print. Then open the answer.

What it prints
2. Two names printed is the reach.
2

Write the version

printf 'version 3 reach 2\n' > /tmp/v.txt; cat /tmp/v.txt

Before you run it, say out loud what it will print. Then open the answer.

What it prints
One line with a version. A version is comparable.
3

Refuse a grown reach

printf 'now 3 last 2\n' | awk '{print ($1>$3) ? "refuse names new host" : "ok"}'

Before you run it, say out loud what it will print. Then open the answer.

What it prints
refuse names new host. One name is fixable.

Data Flow

A manifest to a review
1 The reach is printed at ship
↓
2 The version is written with it
↓
3 The list is compared to the last review
↓
4 A grown reach refuses with the host
Why this works
Why the reach is printed every time

A reach that is remembered is a reach that changed silently. Printed every time is why a change is a finding.

The one thing a review never accepts

A star. A star is a reach that is not a list, and a list is what a review reads.

Examples

The reach is printed at ship

Printed, not summarised. Printed is what makes the review about the list rather than about a word.

The version is in the review

The version of the manifest. A version in the review is a review that can be compared to a later one.

A reach that grew is refused

The refusal names the host that grew. One name is what makes the growth fixable.
